Sometimes you can't get proof of address in the name SARS needs. This is common:
The business doesn't have its own address yet.
You work from home, and the bills are in a family member's name.
You let from someone without a formal lease agreement.
In every case, the fix is the same: a third party confirms the address for you, and proves who they are.
You'll need two things from that third party:
1. A signed confirmation that you (or your company) operate from their address.
For most applications, this is the CRA01 form (Confirmation of Residential or Business Address). Download it here.
For an Import/Export licence, the CRA01 isn't accepted. You'll need a company address affidavit signed by a commissioner of oaths instead. Download it here.
2. The third party's own proof of address — in their name, dated within the last 3 months. Any document from the accepted list works.
The part people get stuck on
The proof of address is the third party's — in their own name.
It is not the business address, and not a document in the company's name. The third party is vouching for you, so SARS needs to confirm they're a real, verifiable person first. Their confirmation form stands in for the proof you can't provide; their personal proof of address backs it up.
A worked example: you let a unit from someone, but there's no formal lease and the accounts are all in their name. You can't get a document in your company's name. The person you let from completes the confirmation form and attaches their own proof of address — and that satisfies the company requirement.
Quick checklist
✅ CRA01 form (or company address affidavit for Import/Export), signed by the third party
✅ The third party's own proof of address, in their name, dated within the last 3 months
